Medien für die Lehre was founded in 2015 and in 2018 was affiliated to the newly founded Center für Lehr- und Lernservices. This is an cross-faculty service unit for blended learning at RWTH Aachen. With 22 employees, the production of teaching videos, Massive Open Online Courses, in short MOOCs, and Serious Games as well as the planning and implementation of electronic exams are part of the core range of Medien für die Lehre.

Teaching videos such as pre-course or internship videos and flipped classroom formats are produced in our own green screen studio. In addition to the studio productions, image films and explanatory videos are also shot on site. There are already more than 10,300 instructional videos with a total duration of over 2200 hours. In addition, Medien für die Lehre has an advisory and implementing function and supports the chairs and service units of the RWTH Aachen in the production of material and coaching with regard to the recordings.

Since 2016, Massive Open Online Courses, in short MOOCs, have also been made available via the edX platform. With an international reach and now more than 120,000 enrolments in a total of more than 20 courses, they have achieved a total of more than 20 courses. Most of the video-on-demand formats are offered in the subject area of business and management, but they also serve offers in biotechnology, mechanical engineering and hydrology.

Serious Games are learning games developed by Medien für die Lehre and are used at RWTH Aachen University for transfer tasks and as an examination medium during the semester. Learning through application is the main focus here. In the year 2018 10 Serious Games were used. In total, more than 30,000 students have earned grades using the Serious Games in recent years. RWTH Aachen is the only university in Germany that has developed sustainable competencies in this area and is a national and international leader in this field.

With the specially developed online examination system Dynexite, the various chairs of the RWTH Aachen are also supported across faculties in the planning, tailor-made software development and implementation of electronic examinations. These take place in the ZuseLab and can currently be carried out simultaneously with up to 316 exams. Larger numbers of up to 2000 examinees are divided into several cohorts and can therefore take part in one exam simultaneously. By the summer semester 2019, almost 900 electronic exams with more than 120,000 individual exams had been taken using Dynexite.

In addition, Medien für die Lehre is part of the internationalization strategy of German universities at RWTH Aachen and has already worked together with the non-governmental organization Kiron, Berlin, the University of Applied Sciences Lübeck and the Gesellschaft für akademische Studien- und Testentwicklung g.a.s.t., Bochum in the projects Integral2, Integral+ and IMPactDIGITAL, which are funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
